I'm excited today to write about the launch of our SolidWorks Green Design Contest, in honor of Earth Day. Many of you may not yet have tried the environmental assessment tool that comes free with SolidWorks, called SustainabilityXpress. Those of you who have played with Sustainability may not realize how useful it can be when used in conjunction with our Simulation tools.

Hopefully this contest will give you a nice excuse to try 'em all...especially with some cool trips and gadgets on the line. The concept of the challenge is pretty simple. We've provided a rather plain-looking model of a chair, and are asking you to redesign it -- or design it anew -- to make it functional, beautiful, and more sustainable.

If you're up to the challenge you could win some cool stuff. The Grand Prize in the commercial contest is a trip to Chaa Creek Eco Lodge in Belize:

The Grand Prize for the student contest is a trip to SolidWorks World 2012. And for the runners-up, we're handing out a total of 14 iPads (including 3 for our top Reseller designs). There are 56 winners in all in the various categories, so your chances are pretty good!

Ada kabar baik nih gan...bagi agan yang suka share file dengan 3d PDF ( bagi yang belum tahu 3d PDF - File pdf yang mana modelnya dalam bentuk 3 dimensi artinya dapat di rotate di lihat dalam bentuk 3D), sekarang sudah ada  - Presentation Studio Theme Editor - tool untuk membuat layout baik berupa background, title, logo ataupun text dan sebagainya. Sehingga file yang kita share (3d pdf) bukan hanya menampilkan gambar modelnya saja tetapi dapat mengirimkan data dengan lengkap karena kita dapat menambahkan text dan atribut perusahaan kita.

DESCRIPTION
The ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition is an excellent opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their abilities in designing mechanisms and robots.

Many past entries have been designed with SolidWorks software!

This competition consists of two rounds: in round one, student(s) send a report on their design, and in round two, a few selected teams from round one are invited to the conference to present their design. Winners of the competition will be recognized during the Mechanisms and Robotics luncheon at the conference venue, and presented with awards, which in the past, have included both cash and software prizes.

The National Science Foundation has provided funding to support the travel costs of up to two participants from each design team that makes it to the final round. The funds will cover the ASME IDETC registration, hotel stay, transportation (airfare), and meals (on a per diem basis). Students from all US-based institutions are eligible for this.

Review SW2010

Review yang terbaru di solidworks versi 2010, sudah saya coba di versi beta 3. Berikut ini review sekilas dan penilaiannya merupakan penilaian pribadi saya sendiri :) ... Silahkan anda mencoba versi betanya....


User Interface

Pada bagian UI tidak ada perubahan yang begitu berarti seperti perubahan dari versi 2007 ke 2008. Tetapi ada beberapa improvement yang begitu bagus diantaranya Mouse Gesture, hanya dengan klik kanan lalu menggesernya ke arah yang kanan akan memunculkan optional perintah-perintah.



Documentation

Dengan solidworks 2010 kita tidak akan kesulitan dalam mencari bantuan permasalahan, karena fiel HELP sudah langsung ONLINE!!!!!!...on line..online... :)
Bagaimana yang tidak mempunyai koneksi internet ( waduh hari gini ga on line..online..) tenang saja sudah disediakan file help dalam bentuk chm.

API

No komen ah ini mah...karena banyak pisaaaan improve na... :)

Assembly

Ini yang menarik...di assembly ada satu tools baru yaitu Assembly Visualization, dengan tool ini kita dapat mengelompokan part-part didalam assembling secara dinamis, kita pun dapat mengelompokan part-part tersebut berdasarkan kriteria yang kita masukan misalnya berat, densiti ataupun harga dari part tersebut. Dengan sangat sederhana dan cepat.



Mangstabss...banget nih juragan Mirror Component, sekarang mirror komponen terdapat pada feature manager design tree. Kita pun dapat membuat versi yang berlawanan dengan part sumbernya sebagai konfigurasi dari part yang di mirror.


Configuration

Di versi sebelumnya kita mengenal configuration manager, di solidworks 2010 sudah berubah nama menjadi configuration publisher. Sangat mudah untuk mengkonfigurasi part dan dapat dengan mudah untuk mengupload design kita ke 3d content central.


Drawing

Dengan Rapid Dimension kita dapat dengan mudah memberikan dan mengatur ukuran. Tersedia juga Dimension pallet untuk memudahkan kita dalam mengatur properties dari sebuah dimensi.
